I had always thought that Andy Warhol was a trendy joke. Really, how much talent does it take to colour in a picture of Jackie Onassis? Not much, said old Martin. However... If he did the Marilyn Monroe screen print as a comment on Benjamin's stand that meaning is produced at the moment of consumption, then I owe him an apology. A big one - as that's really very clever. Not least because he then allowed companies to mass produce this statement about mass production and sell them so as they hung on many different walls, simultaneously inspiring different reactions and being re-invigorated by them. Like I now say - clever.
