A remarkable man

At first, Berry's article looks like a just praise for Shaw.
However, I was able to find a hidden message from the article after last class. Berry praised Shaw's experience in the countryside, his philosophy
based on self-respecting and labor and folk-agrarianism.
On the other hand, I found critique on education policy in the U.S. which
pursue only top.
According to his article, Berry praises Shaw like this, "As a consequence,
he began to "to rise up," not to "the top". I think Berry criticizes education policy and competitive society without respect for human's life
in modern society depending on Shaw's claim.

discourse and power

Hidden power exists in our living.
Especially, I have been worried about commercials.
I think many people are subordinate to the corporation's strategy.
Unconsciously, they have been exposed to their intention which sells many products to consumers. As a result, the people seem to eat junk foods or drink harmful beverages like coke etc.
Further more, the people seem to be under slavery for the commercial corporations unconsciously. However, serious thing is that they don't recognize the problem. The commercials only attract them to buy their goods and make them . Therefore, the people have more and more changed into consumptive people. They rarely read a book for themselves, just enjoy their
life. I mean the life which enjoy their life is not bad, but the life
is not good for human kind. I think originally human being is intelligent
exist. If we consume during our life, the life may be vain.
Naturally, people like to enjoy in their life, however, I mean we need to
balance enjoyment with critical understanding about the our surroundings.

The language of African literature and world Englishes

The opinion between Thiong'o and Kachru is contrary.
Rently, many minor or tribal languages have been more and more disappeared, because this is related to language hegemony, especially English have been leading this trend in the world. Thiong'o idea reflects this trend, and he
says the the cause comes back to the colonized period, and claims recover their unique identity with literature.
On the contrary to this, Kachru sees the advantages or strengths of English after globalization.
Each opinion is each right. However, I think we need the harmony between
two opinions in our life, especially in Korea. We need to keep our uinque
identity as Korean, but we need to develop our economy through trade. English became world language in the world as commercial language. We have
to accept this situation, never be lagged in the world trend.
Therefore, we should try to harmonize two opinions to be exist as Korea in the world, to survive as Korean.

The banking method vs problem-posing education

problem-posing education in Korea

Most students in Korea have been educated by banking education.
However, for the first time, some teachers tried problem-posing eduaction at school. They objected routine curriculum for the test which is for entering to university. Someone says we need new policy for education.
Recently, there is new challenge for problem-posing education in Korea.
That is called alternative school. The school system has different curriculum in comparison with regular schooling. This is new trial for education in Korea, because this education system focuses on creativity.
The system allows greater autonomy for education, for example, teacher don't have to stick to routine curriculum for the test. Therefore, students can learn many things through field trips, such as in biology, music etc.And this system is not teacher-centered but students-oriented.
I wonder that the result from this new trial.
Now, Korea is posing new trial for problem-posing education.
